. . .something to really think about

There is a very interesting book"Because they hate" A very interesting book.

It makes me wonder about the everyday person who picked up the newspaper in the late 1930's. I wonder how far away they all thought the world's problems were from themselves. Before WWII and the depth of the awareness of the war crimes and the horror...the shock we all feel just viewing the pictures...never knowing the immense nature of any of those crimes against mankind at the time. How could decent people understand such terrible things. I am saddened at the idea that beyond all the talking heads of the world that the horrors that mankind is capable of is being repeated

I like the way. . .

I like the way that so many institutions are offering classes for personal learning.

M.I.T. offers http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/web/courses/courses/ with a wide variety of courses to learn something new, rattle those marbles in your brain around and fine tune what may (or may not) be there.

or this one: http://web.sls.csail.mit.edu/lectures/

learner.org also has some fun things presented by the Annenberg Foundation.
more at Texas University at http://web.austin.utexas.edu/wlh/index.cfm and http://lecturefox.com/

Duke University has a series of lectures available for download on iTunes.http://deimos3.apple.com/WebObjects/Core.woa/Browse/new.duke.edu.1301297093.01301297103

Is it really? Sewing Season?

I found this on YouTube and it is what I needed to help with an upcoming project at my house:

Saturday, July 19, 2008

It was a weird feeling driving home in a sea of minivans and my being aware that I was driving a mid-1990s Honda that didn't have extended anything--not even infant carseats (of course my children are grown and there are only moments that I wish they could be restrained--but that is by far another novel contained within a set of encyclopedias--and don't get me wrong I am well aware that my children are very good people--I just reserve the right to sometimes be cranky--it is my hope that the surprise action will make them more adept to appreciate me more than they might otherwise). Racing down the freeway blowing oil from my old car and wondering if I had somehow interupted a movie shoot or PR campaign for a car of a different kind....in my 20s it mattered what my car looked like...in my 30s and 40s it mattered to my kids. These days I am just thankful that my car gets me to work and the $5.00 a gallon gas I can somehow manage from my itty bitty pay check...and then realizing that THAT is a lot of money!!! Why can't public transporation be efficient and wonderful and timely.......not in this part of California. Ho!Hum!! A bus would take 2 and half hours for what I drive in 15minutes and a taxi would cost over $20 for what I drive for almost $5.00 a day.....of course, if I walked I could omit my gym and spa membership fees and just think about all of that TIME that it would take away from all the FUN things I like to do! Maybe things are better left as they are.................hmmm.

We had the most wonderful vacation! The out of doors is absolutely the place for us! Fishing, fly fishing, camping, hiking, dutch oven cooking, and great company! Outstanding time!
