It was a weird feeling driving home in a sea of minivans and my being aware that I was driving a mid-1990s Honda that didn't have extended anything--not even infant carseats (of course my children are grown and there are only moments that I wish they could be restrained--but that is by far another novel contained within a set of encyclopedias--and don't get me wrong I am well aware that my children are very good people--I just reserve the right to sometimes be cranky--it is my hope that the surprise action will make them more adept to appreciate me more than they might otherwise). Racing down the freeway blowing oil from my old car and wondering if I had somehow interupted a movie shoot or PR campaign for a car of a different kind....in my 20s it mattered what my car looked like...in my 30s and 40s it mattered to my kids. These days I am just thankful that my car gets me to work and the $5.00 a gallon gas I can somehow manage from my itty bitty pay check...and then realizing that THAT is a lot of money!!! Why can't public transporation be efficient and wonderful and timely.......not in this part of California. Ho!Hum!! A bus would take 2 and half hours for what I drive in 15minutes and a taxi would cost over $20 for what I drive for almost $5.00 a day.....of course, if I walked I could omit my gym and spa membership fees and just think about all of that TIME that it would take away from all the FUN things I like to do! Maybe things are better left as they are.................hmmm.
